Indonesian for Foreign Speakers Program of Mulawarman University, known as Program Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing Universitas Mulawarman (abbreviated Unmul BIPA Program)  is a non-degree program,  organized by International Office Unit. This program was opened in 2007, in collaboration with the Bureau of Planning and Overseas Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia.

Graduates competency standard issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia (Permendikbud No. 27 of 2007) is used as curriculum references for the curriculum of the Unmul BIPA Program. This curriculum refers to the CEFR and Indonesian Language Proficiency Test. The Unmul BIPA Program consists of 3 (three) levels i.e. level A (A1 and A2), level B (B1 and B2), and level C (C1 and C2). Each level is equivalent to 240 h of learning duration. The Unmul BIPA program uses the concept of guided, structured and independent learning by integrating grammar into four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).

Since 2007, 60 BIPA-Darmasiswa alumni were graduated from Unmul BIPA Program. They are from Algeria, Australia, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, Hungary, Japan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Netherland, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Venezuela, and Vietnam. At the moment, there are 6 Unmul BIPA Students who get the Darmasiswa Indonesian Scholarship. They are Mr. Dushyant (India), Mr. Amonulloi Abdulmanon (Tajikistan), Ms. Ermioni Vlachidou (Greece), Ms. Jana Rambova (Czech Republic), and Hamadou Alioum (Cameroon).

In the academic year 2020/2021, students of Unmul BIPA Program will also study Indonesian art, culture, cuisine, beverage, and conduct cultural and tourist visits.
