Darmasiswa Student of University of Muhammadiyah Malang From Vietnam Wins Singing Competition in East Java Region Level
The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) not only encourages its local students to reach some achievements, but also its international students. One of them is a Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA) ( Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers) student from Vietnam, Nguyễn Hoài Ngân. She also awarded of Darmasiswa Scholarship Program of Republic Indonesia. She won second place in the East Java singing competition organized by the East Java Language Center at Yello Jemursari Hotel, Surabaya, last October 3. The competition was attended by foreign participants who were studying at various universities in East Java.
Furthermore, Ningsih, her nickname, admitted that she has alredy prepared for the competition for several days. Finally, she decided tossing two songs, they are Indonesia Jaya and Maju tak Gentar. “I practiced constantly for three days. I had to master the tone, intonation, pronunciation and also memorize the lyrics of the songs I performed. It was quite challenging and made me nervous,” she said.
In addition, the students who like to singing also experienced stage fright just before the performance. Luckily, the support of the BIPA UMM staff made her strong and able to perform optimally. She is also proud and happy to be able to win second place in the East Java level competition.
“I was nervous, for sure. But I managed to overcome it with self-confidence and support from BIPA facilitators. Thanks to UMM and Darmasiswa Scholarship Program for facilitating my hobby and bringing me to be a champion,” she added happily.

Finally, she advised all BIPA students at UMM to not hesitate in developing their potential. Moreover, considering that UMM always provides a qualified forum and infrastructure for potential development. “I really hope that every student at BIPA can develop their potential so that they can make achievements and make the campus proud,” she concluded.
Ningsih’s participation is a part of BIPA UMM’s commitment to accommodate the talents and passions of foreign students. It is also aligned with BIPA’s mission, which is to provide language, art and cultural learning services that are able to meet the needs and expectations of foreign speakers. Previously, Ningsih was also often asked to perform at several major campus events. For example, at the closing of Pesmaba, art performances, and even during graduation.
