“Darmasiswa President University: The Exciting Journey of Students in Discovering the Culture and Indonesian Language”
President University, also referred to as PU, is a renowned private campus situated in the Jababeka City, at the centre of Bekasi Regency. PU is actively engaged in cultural diplomacy and the promotion of the Indonesian language including through the Darmasiswa Program.
In 2023, PU is thrilled to have the opportunity to receive Darmasiswa Students from a wide variety of nations, including South Korea, Pakistan, and Madagascar. During their time at PU the student participated in a broad variety of activities such as immersed in the culture and language of Indonesia.
The students are given the chance to participate in Indonesian language courses that offer a comprehensive curriculum and taught by experienced and knowledgeable instructors. The students have demonstrated an exceptional level of enthusiasm and commitment towards acquiring proficiency in the Indonesian language. Furthermore, the students are accompanied by local students, to help them connect with local community. So, they can enhance their learning experience by applying the knowledge that they acquire in the classroom.
Aside from their course study, Darmasiswa Students at PU also participate in an event known as “MAKRAB: Malam Keakraban” which can have meaning to “Night of Togetherness”. Where at night, the Darmasiswa students and other PresUnivers would gather in one place to engage in lively conversations, enjoy a movie screening, shared food, and simply spend quality time in each other’s company.
The Darmasiswa student shared their day-to-day experiences during their stay in Indonesia. For instance, one of them encounter the profound impact of culture shock, the difficulties of understanding new language, and many more.
Naturally, any discussion that doesn’t involve the presence of food will inevitably feel incomplete. During this event, Darmasiswa student and PresUnivers student have the opportunity to taste a wide array of food. For instance, there is Toppoki, a Korean specialty, as well as various other Indonesian foods and some additional snack. The act of sharing food creates a communal atmosphere that encourages conversation, laughter and a genuine exchange of stories. The experience of eating food together also serves as a bridge between cultures, allowing everyone to explore and appreciate diverse culinary traditions.
