Ubaya International Students Enjoyed Mount Bromo

On 25 and 26 November 2023, 9 Ubaya international students from Darmasiswa and Exchange program in Ubaya, joined the cultural trip to Mount Bromo and also visit Bromo Volcano Observatory.

The first day agenda is visiting Bromo Volcano Observatory (BVO), where students witnessed various equipment, including seismometers, tiltmeters, and gas sensors to monitor Bromo’s active volcanoes and earthquakes, figure out how dangerous they are, and send out warnings. BVO also works to improve scientific knowledge so that volcanic eruptions have less effect on people. An essential part of the BVO is telling the public and scientists about the results of its work.

When the sun went down, all the students were prepared to go to the bonfire spot, near to their villa. They enjoyed baked corn and cassava by themselves and also had dinner afterwards. Since the weather is getting colder, they come closer to the bonfire while talking about their experiences living in Indonesia, etc. All the students go back to the villa around 9 PM and get to sleep earlier, so that they can wake up and get ready for the Bromo tour tomorrow morning at 3 AM.

The most awaited activity of this program came the early morning of the second day when students enjoyed the beautiful Mount Bromo, its dessert, crater, whispering sand, and the sunrise from Penanjakan Peak. To do this, all students willingly woke up at 3 a.m. and rode a jeep for an hour to reach Seruni’s point. The students saw a beautiful sunrise, with the sky turning into a painting of bright colors that stood out against the rough scenery. After sunrise, the students moved to Whispering Sands and Teletubbies Hills and were fascinated with the rolling hills and lush grass that made the area look like a dream state. As the last stop, students hiked to the active Bromo Crater. As they climbed to the edge, they were amazed by the natural wonder’s raw power and energy. They stood in awe as they looked into the crater’s depths, where nature’s geological forces were on full display, leaving an indelible mark on all who saw its grandeur.
